As a Data Engineer, I work for clients such as Swinkels and De Vries Scheepsbouw. My work revolves around collecting and combining data from different sources such as SharePoint, SAP and AFAS. We bring this data together in our Intelligenthive®: the smart layer on top of Azure and Microsoft Fabric in which we build pipelines and notebooks.
From coffee with vanilla to smart data solutions
My day starts around 7:30 a.m. Quickly shower, get dressed and then the best start there is: a cup of coffee with a lump of vanilla, lovingly prepared by my wife. Then I take the kids to the babysitter. This is usually accompanied by a mix of “I don’t want to!” and finally waving happily anyway.
Around 9 a.m. I’m ready for stand-up. We briefly discuss what’s on the schedule, throw in the occasional lame joke, and then the day can really begin.
Collecting, combining and activating data
What makes my work really special? Our entire ETL pipeline is AI-driven. From data retrieval to transformation to loading: everything is automatic. What used to be hours of typing is now done at lightning speed. This allows me to focus on our customers’ real issues.

A fried egg and on again
Around lunchtime, I make it easy on myself. I work at home today and then a fried egg on bread is usually on the menu. If I am in Naarden at the office, then I choose a sandwich from the cafeteria. Once a month is extra enjoyable:Engineering
Day. Then we are treated to a sumptuous lunch with the whole team. Tasty, but above all very cozy. Because in addition to working on cool projects, there is also plenty of room for fun with colleagues.
After lunch, I continue processing the data. Once the sources are loaded and the AI pipeline has done its job, everything in the Intelligenthive® is ready to extract insights from the data. That moment when the puzzle pieces fall together and a customer suddenly sees all that is possible makes the work extra cool for me.
Focus at home or working together in Naarden
Whether I work from my home in the hills of Limburg or in the office in Naarden, this hybrid way of working provides just the right balance between focus and cooperation. Peace and focus when needed and the energy of colleagues when possible. So today is a very focused day in which I get a lot of work done!
From customer data to quality time
In the late afternoon, I close my laptop and personal life begins again. I often cook dinner, after which we eat with the family. Today Spaghetti Carbonara is on the menu. After that, we often watch a series.
What makes my workday successful?
A day is successful for me when I have made an impact. When the data is no longer scattered and unusable, but becomes clear and valuable thanks to the Intelligenthive®. And at least as important: when I can close the day at home afterwards with quality time with my family. The balance between substantively challenging work and a nice family life makes that I enjoy starting every day anew.
