As Senior Developer at Beeminds, I work daily on the stability and quality of the Intelligenthive®. The great thing about working at Beeminds is that I can almost always do this remotely, whether at home in Belgium or a few months a year in Thailand. No day is the same and that makes my work challenging and fun.

The day begins with family and focus

My day starts at 7 a.m. First I give my daughter her bottle, a regular and nice moment to start the day. Then I jump in the shower, make coffee and make breakfast. At 8:30 a.m. I am ready at my desk. I start by going through my emails and pull requests from colleagues. This way I have an immediate overview and can give feedback with a fresh perspective. At 9 a.m. follows the daily stand-up in which we discuss our progress and priorities as a team.

Remote working as standard

Since I live more than two hours from the office, fortunately I almost always work remotely. That saves me four hours of travel time a day, time I would much rather put into my family, sports or work. Remote work requires discipline, but it also gives me tremendous freedom and focus. It feels good to know that I can deliver the same quality from home as if I were in the office.

Code, reviews and an eye for the user

After the stand-up, I dive into the code. My days consist of programming, improving existing systems and thinking up new features. My focus is not only on stability and quality, but also on the end-user experience. A good UI/UX can make the difference between software that only works and software that people really enjoy using. I enjoy bringing these two worlds, robust technology and user-friendly interfaces, together.

Sport and family in balance

Around 4:30 p.m., I put on my gym clothes and head to the gym. That hour of exercise helps me clear my head after a day full of focus. Around 6 p.m., I am back home and slide into the table with my family. My wife cooks delicious food! Thank goodness, because if it were up to my cooking skills, we would probably often end up with Belgian fries or a takeout pizza. For me, eating together is always a moment of enjoyment and relaxation. Afterwards, I give my daughter her bottle and we enjoy quality time together until she goes to bed.onj

Evening at your own pace

When my daughter is asleep, I take time for myself and my wife. Sometimes I do some more work in the garden, although the grass often grows faster than I can keep up. And often I do dive behind the computer to finish something or explore a new technology. My work feels more like a hobby than work, because I love what I do.

Flexibility worldwide

A nice advantage of my job is that I can work from Thailand for several months a year. That gives me the chance to be with my wife’s family without having to make concessions to my work. It emphasizes for me how modern and flexible Beeminds handles work: trust and results are key.

What makes my workday successful?

For me, a working day is successful when I notice that together as a team we have taken another step towards a better Intelligenthive®. And privately? When I have been able to combine the day with time for my family, sports and space to immerse myself in technology and design. Then I go to sleep with peace of mind (unless my daughter thinks otherwise).
