As Data Architect, I work on developing and improving data solutions within Intelligenthive®, Beeminds’ AI data platform. I make sure that customer data is properly processed, structured and made available for use. I translate customer needs into technical solutions and help build generic functionalities that can be used by multiple customers.

Quiet start in Valkenburg

My day starts at 7:30 a.m. No extremely early alarm clock today, as it is a home work day. I start quietly: brush my teeth, have a bowl of yogurt and then immediately go outside with my labrador Freddy. He is four years old and full of energy.

When I return it is almost 9 a.m.. Time for coffee and the daily stand-up with the team. We do this with everyone at the same time. Short, powerful and especially nice to hear what everyone is doing.

I am working on improvements within our platform, such as a functionality where clients can easily indicate if they want to keep historical data. For them a check mark, for me a technical issue. I like puzzles like that.

From raw data to smart insights

After the stand-up, I dive into my work. Today I am working for our client Swinkels. Last week I built several data transformations. Simply put: I take care of transforming data from all kinds of systems into a structure that is understandable for domain experts.

Today is all about going live. I am moving my work from the test environment to the acceptance environment. That means we can test with realistic data. Often surprises still come out of that, so it’s staying sharp.

I am also working on unlocking a new data source. This includes arranging access rights and creating links between systems so that the data becomes available correctly and securely within the platform.

Lunch, fresh air and on again

Around noon, it’s time for lunch. I eat sandwiches with egg. Simple, but delicious. Then out again with Freddy along with my wife who also works at home today.

Switching quickly in the afternoon

In the afternoon, it turns out that I finished my schedule faster than expected. That happens sometimes, too. Then I switch gears. I check what the next step is, but because I need input for that from a domain expert (someone who knows everything about beer processes), I have to wait a while for that

So I continue with internal work. I am working on improvements within our platform, such as a functionality where customers can easily indicate if they want to keep historical data. For them a check mark, for me a technical issue. I like puzzles like that.

Few meetings, lots of focus

What I like about my job: few meetings. Of course we have the occasional meeting, but no days full of calls. That means that I can really make meters and work with focus. That’s ideal for me.

One step better every day. That’s what I do it for.

Cooking, exercising and relaxing

Around 5:30 p.m., I close my laptop. Time to cook. I usually cook for two days, so efficient. Today, a pokébowl with tempeh is on the menu.

After dinner we go paddling. We try to do that about three times a week. It is great to clear our heads. And of course Freddy has to go outside again, preferably in the direction of the water, because swimming is his favorite pastime. Then the evening is over and I go back to bed.

What makes my day successful?

For me, a workday is successful when I have made progress. When I have built or improved something that really adds value for our customers. One step better every day. That’s what I do it for.
