This means that I oversee everything we build within our technology. I ensure that my colleagues can continue if they get stuck, I think about technical choices and I like to work on the code myself. No two days are the same and that makes it fun. Once a month, the entire team comes to the office for a so-called engineering day. Those days are intensive, creative and fun. Let me take you through a typical Friday.

Wake up

At 6:45 a.m. the alarm clock rings. I jump in the shower, get dressed and start the day by making lunch boxes for my 9- and 11-year-old children. While they eat breakfast, I take a walk with our 9-month-old labradoodle Isa.

On the road with the dog

After the morning ritual, I drive to the office, with a brief stop to drop the dog off at daycare. By 9:15 a.m., I arrive at Beeminds. The workday begins informally: first, a brief chat with colleagues. How are you doing? What are you struggling with? That’s how the conversations develop where we discuss technical challenges or new ideas.

From daily to diving deep into code

As Lead Engineer, I keep oversight of everything we develop within our Intelligenthive® solution. From data structures to the user interface. Colleagues call me when they get stuck on something, and together we look for the best solution. Around 10:30 I also often pick up a task from the sprint. I like to work on technology myself. This varies from data engineering to a feature in the portal. I like the variety.

Walking around the office? Nothing for me. Laps outside are for the dog, not for at lunch. Fortunately, there is plenty to do on engineering day: we often order something delicious, like Surinamese or from the toko. Have a nice meal together and talk about work, vacations and sometimes movies we’ve seen.

“I like to work on the technology myself. It is precisely the variety that I enjoy.”

Didier Caron

Providing insight into data flows

A feature I’m proud of today? We worked with the team to gain more insight into data flows. Think: how much data has been processed? What is the quality? Have any errors occurred? Customers can now see at a glance if something is going wrong with their data. Essential for making good decisions. The technology here comes together with UX and data engineering. Exactly what my role is about.

Creativity after three

After lunch I’ll dive back into engineering unless anyone needs help. Around 3 p.m. we traditionally have a good time brainstorming with each other. Then we discuss ideas for new features or look at things we’d like to build someday. Feet on the table. These are cool moments when our creativity and team spirit come together.

Weekend mode on

Around 4 p.m. it is time to go home. On the way I pick up Isa and once home it is time to close the laptop. Tonight we have a nice sushi dinner. Then my wife and I plop down on the couch for a series or movie. At the moment we are watching “Alice in Borderland,” nice and exciting. Around 11 p.m. the lights go out.

What makes my workday successful?

When I have been able to help the team and have made progress myself. But also when I have learned something new or have been able to inspire someone.

At Beeminds, I work as a Lead Engineer.
