I monitor our customers’ environments and make sure everything keeps running smoothly. This means that I am involved in data engineering, but also in monitoring, incident handling and the continuous improvement of our processes. It is precisely this combination that makes my work varied and ensures that I can switch quickly and make a direct impact for customers.

The day begins actively

At 7 a.m. my alarm clock rings. First a walk with my dog Mika, just a quiet wake-up. Then I grab my overnight oats and get in the car. From my hometown Spaarndam I drive to the office in about half an hour. Once inside, I immediately start up my laptop and open the ticket system. Before the stand-up I make a prioritization: what is urgent, what can wait and where is the impact for the customer?

“Within Managed Services, I monitor notifications, assess the impact and resolve issues. Then the real shifting begins. Sometimes I dive deep into a data engineering issue, sometimes I’m busy solving incidents. Within Managed Services, I monitor reports, assess the impact and resolve issues. I inform our customers about what is going on in their environment and deal with any disruptions immediately. Transparency and speed are important here.

Puzzling with data and customer questions

Much of my day today consists of analyzing. A customer has questions about a notebook that is not working as expected in Microsoft Fabric. I go out to investigate: I dive into the code, figure out the problem and explain what’s happening. I spend a few hours doing that today. The problem is solved! So I know I’ve delivered value.

Proactive improvement and prevention

What I find important is the proactive part of my job. For example, capacity monitoring in Fabric. We restore and refresh data streams without the customer having to do anything about it and the data is back up quickly

Have lunch and relax

At noon I eat my own sandwiches with peanut butter and sprinkles. Just sitting quietly with colleagues, catching up and then moving on.

“What I like about Beeminds is the team. Small, close and short lines. You can switch gears quickly, make a real impact and work together towards the same goal. That makes the work not only challenging, but also just plain fun.”

Jelmer Langbroek

Data Ops Engineer at Beeminds

Getting better together

We are constantly improving. For example, we are currently moving our current ticketing system to another system. There are still some challenges in that. Together with colleagues, I am looking at how we can enrich that data and improve processes. That kind of optimization makes our work more and more efficient. Very fun to do.

Projects and collaboration

After the incidents are resolved, the second part of the day consists of project work for SKO. I look at how we can load data smarter. Bringing in less data, but keeping historical data. To do this, I propose a partition-driven approach so that new data is processed efficiently. Before this goes live, today I test everything extensively in a development environment. I simulate new exports, by modifying existing files. This way we can test it properly what the impact of the modified loading strategy has.

Standing in for each other

What I like about Beeminds is the team. Small, close and short lines. You can switch quickly, make a real impact and work together towards the same goal. That makes the work not only challenging, but also just fun. Within the team we help each other out. Today a colleague is less available and I take over his tasks. Thanks to my knowledge of the customer in question, I can switch quickly and everything keeps going.

Evening Sports

After work, I like to cook. Often something from a vegetarian meal box. Then my girlfriend and I go to work out. We do crossfit and weightlifting. Being physically active after a day behind your laptop works perfectly for me. And of course I take a walk with Mika.

What makes my workday successful?

For me, a day is successful when I have actually solved something for a client. When I have been able to unravel an issue, fix an issue or make an improvement. I love that puzzling.

In my role as a Data Ops Engineer, I combine the best of both worlds.
